On the evening of July 11, 2026, the Anambra State Police Command achieved a significant success in its ongoing battle against child trafficking by apprehending three women: 45-year-old Florence Nnakuzie, 52-year-old Hannah Ugah, and 27-year-old Chinasa Daniel, at a motor park in Onitsha, thanks to officers from the Awada Divisional Headquarters.
According to a statement from SP Toochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson, initial investigations suggest that Chinasa Daniel brought two children—a two-week-old infant and a four-year-old—during separate incidents between June and December 2025 and handed them over to Hannah Ugah.
Chinasa revealed that the four-year-old child was later transferred to Florence Nnakuzie and reportedly sold for Two Million Naira (₦2,000,000), while the two-week-old infant was sold to another individual who remains at large.
The State Police Commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu, described child trafficking as a serious violation of human rights and a crime against humanity. He has ordered the case to be swiftly forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a thorough investigation. The Commissioner has also instructed officers to increase efforts to identify and capture all members of the trafficking ring and initiate coordinated actions to locate, rescue, and reunite the trafficked children with their families.
The Command expressed gratitude to the public for their timely and reliable information that contributed to the success of the operation and encouraged residents to continue providing valuable intelligence to the police.
