Recently, the Delta State High Court in Asaba conducted a hearing on the disturbing murder case of Oghenemine Ogidi, who was reportedly shot by Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Usman Nuhu, also referred to as Ogbegbe. The defendant provided conflicting evidence, while the prosecution introduced testimony concerning the alleged intentional shooting by ASP Nuhu.
The court heard that Nuhu provided conflicting statements about the incident, claiming in one instance that he shot Ogidi “by error” and in another that it was done “out of anger.” He also acknowledged that the shooting was unjustified.
According to the prosecution, Nuhu first fired at Effurun Motor Park after his rifle malfunctioned, and later shot Ogidi again in the right leg at the police station. The Area Commander, ACP Aliyu Shaba, intervened, instructing that Ogidi be taken to Ekpan General Hospital for treatment.

Testimony revealed that the other four defendants stated to investigators that Nuhu shot Ogidi without any provocation. A witness mentioned that Nuhu had ample opportunity to be stopped while he disassembled and reassembled his rifle.
During the hearing, Nuhu reportedly collapsed but was revived before the session continued. The Director of Public Prosecutions, Tejiri R. Anuwhi, indicated that the evidence was substantial and expressed optimism for a just outcome.
Justice Michael Nduka Obi postponed the case until October 21, when the defense is expected to present its arguments.
