The Anambra Concerned Youths Assembly (ACYA) has addressed accusations featured in a viral video that claims the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) of the State Police Command in Enugwu-Ukwu is involved in severe abuse and extortion.

The organization contends that the video is a fabrication aimed at unjustly tarnishing the squad’s hard-earned reputation.

Mr. Emmanuel Edozie, the group’s spokesperson, stated that they are collectively rejecting the misconduct allegations made by Evangelist Ebube Joseph. He argued that the video circulating on social media is part of a strategic effort by cult groups to undermine SPACS in its ongoing battle against cultism in the state.

The ACYA cited an independent investigation by media professionals, which found that those allegedly arrested and mistreated by Anti-Cultism operatives were actually cult members who experienced abuse from other cultists during their initiation.

The group insists that the events were staged and misrepresented. They urged the public, especially the Nigeria Police, to disregard the videos created by the self-proclaimed content creator, Evangelist Ebube Joseph, highlighting his negative reputation and alleged ties to an illegal group that promotes unrest in Anambra State.

In response to the supposed arrests and mistreatment of victims, the youth group distanced SPACES from using items like lighters, cutlasses, and hammers for torture. They claimed that the injuries appeared to be marks typically associated with cult initiation rather than clear evidence of police brutality, countering Joseph’s allegations.

“How can Evangelist Ebube Joseph claim that initiation marks inflicted by cultists on potential recruits are actually the result of actions by the Nigeria Police Force, which is committed to fighting cult-related crime in Anambra State?

“Furthermore, what compensation were cult leaders providing to Ebube Joseph, alleged to be a member of an unlawful organization, to conduct these harmful actions against Anti-Cultism advocates?” the ACYA questioned.

When reached by phone, Evangelist Ebube Joseph affirmed his stance on the video clips and mentioned that others have intervened in the situation. He also revealed that the leadership of the Anti-Cultism Squad has allegedly contacted him regarding the matter.
