Following the announcement by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu regarding the disbandment of all Tactical Teams within the police force, CP Danladi Isa of the Abia State Command few days ago, organized an urgent meeting with essential Command officers, including Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Team Commanders, and Section Heads. This meeting was a direct consequence of a recent discussion with the IGP.
According to a press release issued by DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the Public Relations Officer for the Abia State Command, the CP conveyed the IGP’s instructions and reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to organized and proactive policing, as well as high standards of professionalism under IGP Tunji Disu’s leadership.
The CP announced the immediate disbandment of all tactical teams within the Command and expressed intentions to form new units concentrating on Anti-Cultism and Anti-Kidnapping to promote accountability, effective supervision, and order.
He also instructed officers to avoid duplicating cases, stressing that cases under investigation at the Divisional level should not be transferred to Area Commands, especially if suspects attempt to submit the same issue as a complaint there. Area Commanders are permitted to seek feedback for oversight and must receive his approval for any case handovers.
The CP cautioned against breaching presidential directives, prohibiting the assignment of police personnel to private individuals or VIPs, with promised disciplinary actions for any infractions. He encouraged officers to remain actively engaged within their areas to improve security across the State.
Furthermore, he advised against police involvement in civil disputes, particularly those related to land, recommending that such issues should be settled through legal processes. He ordered the expeditious release on bail of suspects charged with bailable offenses.
He commended Commanders 28 PMF, ACP Adesina Adeniran, and CTU, CSP Chisom Ezebuiro, along with their training teams, for successfully completing combat training and reiterated that ongoing personnel training would enhance tactical capabilities and professionalism.
Newly promoted Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Ifeanyi A. Ohuruzo, also shared his preliminary observations, accentuating the significance of maintaining vigilance for security.
Concluding, the CP stressed the importance for officers to adhere to the law, engage in proactive policing, and uphold professionalism in accordance with the IGP’s directives.
He called on them to assist in fostering peace and security in the State, ensure proper oversight of their teams, and enhance the positive reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.
