Hon. Chukwudi Nwankwo, the Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ebonyi State, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the state of the capital city, Abakaliki, under the leadership of Governor Ogbonna Nwifuru. He highlighted concerns over the apparent decline in the city’s infrastructure, indicating a lack of proper upkeep.

After visiting Abakaliki metropolis yesterday, Nwankwo indicated that the deterioration of nearly all state infrastructure appears to be a script deliberately designed to undermine the legacy of former Governor Engr. Dave Nweze Umahi. He called for the reinstatement of street cleaning crews that had previously improved the state’s hygienic during Umahi’s administration.

Nwankwo pointed out several problematic areas, including the Spear In Deo junction, Presco junction, Abakaliki International Market, Afikpo Road, Ebonyi State Rice Mill, Site, Ogoja Road, and all major access points to the capital. He emphasized the importance of a maintenance culture and criticized the current government, claiming that Governor Nwifuru’s emphasis on his ‘Charter of Needs’ has yet to yield significant benefits for the people of Ndi-Ebonyi, both locally and abroad.

In a press release shared with reporters in Abakaliki by Comrade Chris Emmanuel, the APGA Ebonyi State chapter’s Media Director, Nwankwo expressed regret over the struggles faced by citizens due to the slow progress on the Vanco Flyover project. He urged the government to either expedite its completion or create an alternative route to assist residents in accessing their businesses and homes near the Vanco Flyover.

“From Isieke junction to Onuebonyi River, through Abakaliki city to Nkwegu market via Onueke, and around areas like Isheogo and Ohakwu Local Government in Abakaliki, I hope to prevent any public health crises, as the state has become significantly polluted compared to the previous administration. We, as the APGA family, are voicing our concerns on behalf of the people of Ebonyi State.” He said.

Attempts to contact the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr. Ikeuwa Omebeh, as well, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Nwifuru, Dr. Monday Uzor for reaction were unsuccessful at the time of this report, as their phone numbers could not be reached, likely due to network issues or other reasons.
