The Anambra State Legislature has commended the dedication, practicality, and modernization initiatives of Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for starting the construction of the important Onitsha GRA – 3 – 3 – Otuocha road, which is a key connection between Onitsha, the state’s commercial hub, and Adani in Enugu State. This recognition took place during a plenary session on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze. The motion to acknowledge the governor’s efforts was introduced by Hon. Patrick Okafor (Onitsha North Constituency 2) and backed by Hon. Obi Nweke (Anambra East Constituency), receiving unanimous support from fellow legislators.
During his remarks, Hon. Okafor emphasized Onitsha’s historical role as a trading center, noting its rise to prominence beginning in 1863 when European traders set up trade agreements and designated the area as a port for exporting palm oil and other commodities. The development of transport routes like the Onitsha–Enugu Road and Onitsha–Owerri Road further strengthened Onitsha’s market connections. However, the lack of road improvements to the north of Onitsha has rendered it a ‘Forest Reserve.’
Okafor underscored the significance of the Onitsha Magazine GRA – Three-Three – Otuocha Expressway in linking the bustling commercial hub with surrounding densely populated areas, pointing out persistent issues of road deterioration, congestion, flooding, and safety that have hampered economic activities and extended travel times for commuters. He mentioned that residents, transport unions, and community leaders have consistently called for enhancements, underlining the road’s crucial role in urban mobility and economic development within Anambra.
Governor Soludo’s administration’s decision to pursue the dualization of this expressway showcases forward-thinking leadership and a dedication to infrastructure renewal. Okafor noted that the project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion, improve safety, stimulate commerce, and enhance the quality of life for residents of Onitsha North and Anambra State at large.
Other lawmakers, including Hon. Obi Nweke (Anambra East), Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme (Ekwusigo), Hon. John Bosco (Ihiala South), and Hon. Augustine Ike (Nnewi North), also expressed their support for the motion. In his remarks, Speaker Udeze reiterated, “The Anambra State House of Assembly praises Governor Soludo for awarding and beginning the dualization of the Onitsha Magazine – Three-Three to Otuocha Expressway, representing a significant infrastructural advancement for Onitsha North and the entire Anambra region.”
