Prof. Benard IfeanyiChukwu Odoh, the leading senatorial candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ebonyi Central, has committed to providing effective and high-quality representation aimed at fostering sustainable growth and economic prosperity in the region.
In a statement shared with reporters in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, Odoh expressed his vision of transforming legislative representation by prioritizing policies that would enable Ebonyi Central to thrive in an increasingly technology-oriented global economy.
As the former Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government under ex-Governor David Umahi, Odoh emphasized that a senator’s primary role is to legislate, influence national policies, attract federal support, and ensure effective oversight rather than directly implement projects.
“The key question is not just who will represent Ebonyi Central, but what kind of future that representation will help to create,” he remarked.
He pointed out that emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, digital technology, advanced manufacturing, precision agriculture, renewable energy, and innovation are reshaping the global economy, highlighting the need for Ebonyi Central to adapt and prepare for these changes.
“Communities that take action today will lead in the future. Those that do not adapt risk being left behind. Ebonyi Central must be proactive,” he stated.
Odoh outlined his legislative priorities, which include enhancing broadband infrastructure, establishing centers for innovation and digital skills, and equipping the youth with competitive skills in fields such as artificial intelligence, software development, robotics, cybersecurity, data analytics, and digital entrepreneurship.
He also committed to advocating for legislation that would draw federal and private investments into agro-processing industries, mineral processing facilities, modern logistics, and technology-driven enterprises that can generate sustainable employment.
Additionally, he pledged to promote initiatives that modernize agriculture through precision farming, digital marketplaces, weather intelligence, and improved processing facilities to enhance productivity, minimize post-harvest losses, and increase farmers’ incomes.
Odoh announced plans to reveal his SMART Legislative Agenda soon, which will detail strategies for leveraging legislation, effective oversight, federal advocacy, and strategic partnerships to attract investments, create jobs, enhance education and healthcare, empower farmers and entrepreneurs, and foster sustainable development throughout Ebonyi Central.
He expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Democratic Congress leadership, party members, stakeholders, supporters, and the people of Ebonyi Central for their ongoing support.
“I am truly honored by your trust and embrace this responsibility with a deep sense of duty and purpose. I also want to thank all those who have stood by me during times of opposition, misunderstanding, and personal attacks. These experiences have reinforced my belief that genuine leadership must rest on competence, integrity, vision, courage, and selfless service,” Odoh remarked.
Odoh called on the people of Ebonyi Central to come together to build a district that not only boasts abundant human and natural resources but is also competitive globally in innovation, enterprise, and prosperity.
