The prominent Uzoegwu family from Nkpor, in Anambra State’s Idemili North Local Government Area, was taken aback to discover that a faction had registered their well-known family name as a formal organization. In response, they have requested the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to revoke the organization’s registration and are contemplating ostracizing the individuals listed as the Board of Trustees (BoT) from family affairs.

In an interview with this online news outlet in Awka on June 30, 2026, Mr. Ebuka Uzoegwu, who identifies himself as the family chairman, voiced his assertion that no family would agree to register its name as an association. He committed to pursuing all necessary actions to render the contested CAC registration ineffective.

Notably, Uzoegwu James Akunwata serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, with their registered office at No. 15 Uzoegwu Street, Amafor village, Nkpor. Other BoT members listed in the CAC registration include Uzoegwu Okey Alfonso from No. 12 Abakukwu, Nkpor-Agu, and Uzoegwu Andrew Ogomegbun from No. 3A Uzoegwu Street, Nkpor-Agu; they are tasked with managing the Uzoegwu organization.

According to the registration certificate dated June 29, 2026, and signed by Registrar General Hasaaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN, the members of the Uzoegwu Family Association—a non-profit and non-political group—have officially agreed to form a constitution to govern themselves.

The Association’s aims and objectives include promoting unity and love among all family members, regardless of their location or differences, and fostering peace and harmony within the Uzoegwu family through unity, justice, goodwill, and mutual cooperation, among other principles highlighted in the registration.

Mr. Ebuka Uzoegwu noted that it is improbable for just three family members to approach the Federal Government’s registration office to register the family name as an association. He affirmed their intention to explore all available legal avenues to address this issue.

Additionally, several family members, who prefer to remain anonymous, expressed their support for ostracizing the three individuals representing the Board of Trustees until they adhere to the ancestral constitution of the Uzoegwu family.

Determined not to let the actions of the accused cables stand, the youths, elders, mothers, and other members of the Uzoegwu family staunchly expressed that if this situation is permitted to continue, the entire family may face numerous detrimental events in the near future. They also pledged to call upon the gods and ancestors to protect against anyone who might wish harm upon their family members.

Mr. Ebuka Uzoegwu, the Chairman, urged the Uzoegwu family, especially the younger members, to stay calm. He acknowledged that they have been provoked by three of their elders—Uzoegwu Okechukwu Alphonsus Uzoegwu (also known as Okay Alfonso Uzoegwu) and Uzoegwu Andrew Ogomegbun—but emphasized that no one should resort to taking matters into their own hands, as he is in communication with those responsible for handling such issues.

As of the time this report was filed, numerous meetings are currently taking place in order to determine the next steps. We will keep you updated as the situation develops.
