Hon. Chukwudi Nwankwo, the Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ebonyi State has extended his best wishes to workers and citizens in Ebonyi State in celebration of the 2026 International Workers\u2019 Day, acknowledging them as essential to both state and national development and the driving force behind progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement released on Thursday for this year’s May Day celebration, Hon. Nwankwo praised the dedication, resilience, and sacrifice of workers in Ebonyi State, highlighting that, despite ongoing economic difficulties and societal challenges, they continue to support both the state, nation’s economy and uphold stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He remarked that workers in various sectors\u2014public and private alike, including civil servants, healthcare workers, educators, farmers, artisans, traders, security personnel, and entrepreneurs\u2014are the true cornerstones of Nigeria’s growth and advancement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized that May Day serves not only as a day for celebration but also as a time to reflect on the dignity of work, workers’ rights, and the pressing need for better welfare, fair wages, timely salary payments, pension security, and enhanced working conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFrom our offices to farms, schools, hospitals, markets, and construction sites, Nigerian workers consistently display remarkable courage and dedication. Their efforts form the bedrock of our national development,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The APGA Chairman voiced his concerns about the economic hardships faced by many workers, including inflation, increased transportation costs, inconsistent electricity supply, unemployment, and the decline in the purchasing power of wages, stressing that countless citizens are struggling to make ends meet despite their relentless work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He urged governments at all levels to focus on workers’ welfare and implement policies that enhance living conditions, generate employment, support youth empowerment, and foster economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He warned that youth unemployment poses a significant threat to national peace and development, advocating for greater investments in agriculture, entrepreneurship, industrialization, education, and skills training as sustainable solutions to economic challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, he encouraged labor unions, civil society organizations, and government agencies to collaborate in safeguarding workers’ rights and promoting social justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding national unity, the APGA Chairman encouraged Nigerians to maintain hope and patriotism in light of the current challenges facing the nation, emphasizing that collective effort, discipline, and responsible governance are crucial for national recovery and prosperity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He reaffirmed APGA\u2019s commitment to grassroots development, inclusive governance, and policies that positively affect the lives of everyday citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
