The Anambra State Legislature has congratulated Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo and his Deputy, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim on their successful inauguration for their second term, which will see them fulfill the constitutional requirement of eight years in office from 2022 to 2026 and then from 2026 to 2030. This took place during a recent plenary session led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Sontochukwu Udeze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The motion to commend them was put forth by Hon. Anayo Okpalaeke (Aguta Constituency 1) and received unanimous approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In discussing the motion, Hon. Okpaleke reflected on Governor Soludo’s vision, established upon his assumption of office on March 17, 2022, which aims to create a “livable and prosperous smart megacity.” He emphasized the goal of making Anambra a preferred place for living, learning, investing, working, and enjoying life, so that living outside the state would be a choice rather than due to a lack of opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hon. Okpaleke highlighted that to achieve this ambitious goal, Governor Soludo took immediate action by initiating significant infrastructural projects, which transformed Anambra into a hub of construction and generated jobs for millions, both directly and indirectly. He remarked, “Anambra people were smiling, with three balanced meals on their tables.” He also noted Soludo’s initiative, “One Youth Two Skills,” which funds training for youths in various trades to ensure their preparedness for employment and entrepreneurship. Upon completion, these youths receive workshop equipment and cash for initial investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lawmaker argued that this support for young people serves as a powerful preventative measure against crime, as engaged, skilled youths are less likely to engage in deviant behavior. He encouraged the youth to respond to this support with hard work, patriotism, pragmatism, and responsibility, to establish Anambra as a center for high-quality manufactured exports comparable to those in Europe and Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hon. Ejike Okechukwu (Anaocha Constituency 2) also expressed his admiration for Governor Soludo\u2019s exceptional commitment to infrastructure development. He noted that previous administrations relied on roads originally built during colonial times, but Soludo recognized the need for modernization and began dualizing them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He cited improvements to major roads, including the Awka-Amawbia-Agulu-Ekwulobia-Uga Road, which leads to Abia State, and the Agulu-Nneni-Nnewi-Ozubulu-Okija-Ihiala Road toward Imo State, all of which have been enhanced with street lighting. He asserted that these developments would help transform Anambra into a true “smart megacity” and that his constituency has greatly benefited from these infrastructure advancements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lawmaker expressed confidence that by the end of Soludo\u2019s second term, Anambra would be on par with prominent cities worldwide like London, New York, Paris, and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze remarked with satisfaction that Governor Soludo has engaged all legislators in projects that benefit every corner of the state. He assured ongoing collaboration with the Executive branch, emphasizing that when Soludo is remembered for his contributions, the legislators should share in that recognition, as they are all partners in advancing the development of Anambra State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He commended the governor’s commitment to ensuring the durability of roads and bridges for over 20 years through superior construction techniques previously unseen in Anambra.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
