\u200bPopular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Sulaiman Onikijipa, has urged political leaders in Nigeria to utilise the nation\u2019s resources judiciously in ensuring the needed development is achieved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cleric called on those in positions of authority to prioritise transparency, prudent spending, and people-centred policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Onikijipa, who is also the fourth Grand Mufti (Islamic jurist) of Ilorin, made the call during his Khutbah (Eid sermon) at the Eid praying ground in Grammar School, Ojodu Berger, Lagos, on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasised that responsible management of resources is crucial for achieving sustainable growth and national progress, adding that it is also enjoined in the holy Quran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUse Nigeria\u2019s resources, including revenues, judiciously. Spend it wisely and ensure it gets to all sectors and the people who should benefit from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is not just an admonition from me; it is part of what is commanded in the Quran,\u201d The cleric, who delivered his sermon in Arabic with a translator beside him, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the benefits of the Ramadan fast, the cleric explained that the month-long exercise helped the Muslim ummah to remember the essence of their existence, duty to Allah, and mankind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, Ramadan helped the Muslim faithful to draw the line between excesses, remember the needy, enjoined goodness, and made them conscious of their creator at all times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRamadan is not just about abstinence from food and drinks; it is a ritual in which our soul is cleansed, and to entrench love among the ummah, and keep firm the commandment of Allah both in the open and when we are alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRamadan is to cleanse all of us. It is a month of mercy and forgiveness. It is also a month where the world relearns humanity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the sidelines, Imam Sahdalah Onikijipa, while congratulating Nigerian Muslims on the completion of fasting, urged them to remain humane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDuring the 30-day fasting, we exercise restraint, learn piety, and remain humane. So, we have to continue with that and consider others in our actions and behaviour going forward,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Onikijipa also enjoined Nigerians to continue supporting the government at all levels with prayers in achieving the needed turnaround in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur governments are trying their best, and we need to pray and support them. We pray to Allah to make Nigeria better for all of us,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
